January Week 4: GOAL SETTING
“All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.”
– Orison Swett Marden
At Gracie Humaitá Jiu-Jitsu Tottenham, we’re teaching our students how goal setting leads to both personal and martial arts growth. This week, we’re using the triangle choke to illustrate how smaller goals help achieve larger success.
Begin with the fundamentals. To execute a triangle choke, you need to develop proper technique. Focus on your hip movement, creating angles, and controlling your opponent’s posture. These are the building blocks of a successful submission. From there, practice is key. Repetition helps you refine your skills and prepares you for real scenarios.
Visualization is another important part of goal setting. See yourself executing the technique with precision and confidence. As with any goal, distractions or hesitation can derail progress. Stay focused on the task at hand. Finally, finish with decisive action. When you see the opening, take it! Success in Jiu-Jitsu, like life, often comes to those who commit fully and act without hesitation.
Ask yourself:
Together, we can tackle challenges, reach milestones, and grow stronger—one roll at a time.
